Johnson Matthey is a speciality chemicals company focused on its core skills in catalysts, precious metals and speciality chemicals.

Johnson Matthey is organised into four global divisions: Catalysts; Precious Metals; Colours & Coatings; and Pharmaceutical Materials.

Johnson Matthey’s principal activities are the manufacture of auto-catalysts and pollution control systems; catalysts and components for fuel cells; pharmaceutical compounds; process catalysts and speciality chemicals; the refining, fabrication and marketing of precious metals; and the manufacture of colours and coatings for the ceramic, glass, paint and plastics industries.

Johnson Matthey has continued to develop its technology for almost 200 years, demonstrating it's ability to maintain world leadership by adapting constantly to rapidly changing customer needs. Rigorous in its own environmental policies, many of Johnson Matthey's products have a major beneficial impact on the environment and enhance the quality of life for millions around the world.

Johnson Matthey has operations in 34 countries and employs around 8,000 people. Its products are sold across the world to a wide range of advanced technology industries.

The Catalysts Division consists of 3 separate business units:

• Johnson Matthey's Environmental Catalysts and Technologies (ECT) business, which manufactures catalysts for automobile emission control and the reduction of emissions from industrial processes
• Johnson Matthey's Fuel Cell business which manufactures fuel cell catalysts and catalysed components and
• Johnson Matthey's Process Catalysts and Technologies (PCT) business comprising PGM refining, process catalysts and fine and research chemicals.

Johnson Matthey's Pharmaceutical Materials Division is a global, integrated supplier of active pharmaceutical ingredients. It supplies services to pharmaceutical companies through every phase of the development of a new product.

The Precious Metals Division incorporates Johnson Matthey's worldwide precious metals operations and is organised into two global businesses — Platinum and Gold. Platinum includes Johnson Matthey's precious metal marketing and noble metals fabrication facilities in the UK and the USA. The Gold business consists of the company's worldwide gold and silver refining activities in the USA, Canada, Hong Kong and the United Kingdom

Johnson Matthey's Colours & Coatings Division manufactures a wide range of chemicals and glazes used in the decoration of ceramic products — chiefly tableware, glass and tiles. These range from colours and stains to transfers, inks and liquid precious metal preparations, the division also manufactures pigments for plastics, paints and inks.
