Prudential also have a Closed Block Business, which represents the results of their Traditional Participating Products segment prior to the demutualisation. The Closed Block Business includes Prudential’s in-force traditional participating life insurance and annuity products as well as other assets and equity that support these policies.
Their Class B Stock, which was sold in a private placement and is not traded on any exchange, reflects the results of the Closed Block Business.
Prudential Financial, Inc.'s Common Stock began trading on December 13, 2001 on the New York Stock Exchange under the symbol "PRU." Prudential's IPO and de-mutualisation closed on December 18, 2001 at which point Prudential converted from a mutual insurance company to a stock company.
