Yell Group

Yell Group is an international directories business providing classified advertising and associated products and services.

The group has three main operations:

• UK - In the UK Yell is the leading provider of classified advertising and their products include Yellow Pages, Business pages, Yell.com, Yellow Pages 118 247

• USA - In the US Yell is the leading provider of classified telephone directory advertising. The main product is the Yellow Book USA and Yellowbook.com.

• Spain and Latin America - Yell Publicidad provides directory services in print, online or telephone based media in Spain, Chile, Peru and Argentina

Yell has been so successful because of its simplicity and ease of putting buyers in touch with sellers. The products and services generate genuine business leads for the advertisers and for users, with wide choices of businesses being offered.

Yell Group Products

The main product of Yell since its incorporation has been the printed directories. They offer business to consumer and business to business classified directory listing. In Spain and Chile 'White Pages' directories provide alphabetical listings of residential and business numbers. Yell Publicidad also sells a directory for the European market called Europages that lists companies operating on a European scale.

The websites set up by Yell are based around the printed directories and they are second form of accessing information on businesses and companies used by Yell Group. They allow the user to search and they offer online advertising.

The phone is the other form that information can be accessed. They offer directory assistance in different countries around the world. Spain has a 11 888 service and the UK has a 118 24 7 directory service.

The Yellow pages is the most common Yell Group product and has been around in the UK for over 40 years. The Yellow Pages directories are published annually and all homes and businesses receive a copy each year for free. During the 2007 financial year around 28.3 million copies were distributed throughout the UK.

The majority of all UK businesses are listed in the directory for free, but the Yell Group offers paid advertising to make profits. Yellow Pages sell features of the directory to businesses to promote their company. This includes special advertisement boxes, the business name in a larger font or size than regular listings and full page colour adverts.

In 2007 there were 113 different directory editions for the UK, 969 directory editions of the Yellow Book USA and 125 editions for Yell Publicidad. The different editions are divided into geographical areas and Yellow Pages directories also contain local and community information.
